Many of you are probably wondering what's going on with us six weeks after our return from Nepal. We still have a lot of unknowns but also many things to be thankful for.
The pregnancy is going very well. The placenta previa has absolutely resolved. The doctor offered some medical explanations for how it could have disappeared so quickly and fully, but none of them truly fit my scenario, so we're still calling it a miracle. The diabetes has also officially resolved! We attribute the diabetes purely to stress since it disappeared once we had a clear decision about returning to the US. It's a bit scary to directly see how powerful stress is on our physical bodies, but we are thankful for the release from this risk factor. Jack did come a bit early, so this baby may also come early; however, I am not working in a stressful environment and am not on my feet all the time, so maybe this baby won't come early! Time will tell.
Finding an OB and hospital was no easy task, but the Lord has provided. We are pleased with our physician and will deliver at a top-notch hospital--as long as we get there in time! Jack came very quickly, and second babies often arrive even more quickly, so pray for no traffic when labor starts! But please don't pray for slow labor. ;)
Jack is doing well during the day but still struggling with sleep at night. He is enjoying time with Tayta, my mother, who we are living with, and he is having fun at the nice local parks. He recently felt his little brother move, which seems to have transitioned him into being excited about becoming a big brother. He now talks to his little brother and says he loves him. We are grateful for this! The new little guy moves a lot--really, a lot--so we wonder what we're in for! Hopefully he'll at least like to sleep; otherwise, we are unsure how we will survive with two non-sleepers in our lives.
Tim has been diligently looking for work. He has applied to over 30 jobs with an eerie silence in response. A couple of potential leads have fallen through. He will continue to focus his job search in San Diego at least until the baby comes so that we are not scrambling to find a new doctor and hospital at the last minute. After baby arrives, if he still has not had any promising leads, we will have to consider other options. Please pray for wisdom in that decision process. He could look for engineering positions outside of San Diego or consider a change in career and stay in San Diego. It is common for returning missionaries to have trouble finding work again; please pray for our trust in the Lord's provision and timing.
I was not planning on working until after baby comes; however, with no promising leads for work for Tim, we are reconsidering. I initially could not work in the US because my prescribing license expired; however, my new license arrived much more quickly than expected, so now I can potentially work. I have been given connections to several local clinics, which I am contacting, but I'm not sure if they can get me through the hiring process before needing to go on maternity leave. We'll see what the Lord wants.
Our hearts feel unsettled still. We won't know where we will actually live until Tim gets a job. Then I think I can hang pictures on the walls and start reaching out for community again, including a new home church. In the meantime, we recognize that God might be giving us this time without jobs to be together as a family after the previous rather crazy two years and before we enter back into busy American lives.
So overall things are going well. We ask for prayer over Tim's job search, that we would be patient in waiting on the Lord for what He desires, that we would have good discernment on the location and type of job, and that the Lord would place us where He wants us to do work for Him. Please continue to pray for safety over the pregnancy. We'll send out some encouraging updates about Nepal soon. Thank you for your continued support, encouragement and prayers!
