To the Ends of the Earth: Updates on Nepal

We would like to update you on several Nepal prayers that have been answered, along with a few that still remain.

As you know, the border blockade with India was lifted just before we left, a huge step. Prayers are still needed, however, for the black market on fuel to end so that Nepalis can actually access the fuel that is now flowing into the country.

The border blockade was one of many factors that has made it harder for Nepal to recover from the earthquakes that started one year ago. The government has not released any of the funds that are supposed to help people rebuild their homes. The blockade inhibited supplies from entering the country, which slowed the rebuilding process for those who gave up on waiting for government assistance. Many are still living in temporary shelter as the monsoon season is about to begin again. Please pray over this. We previously asked that you pray for United Mission to Nepal, our in-country organization, to find a new director. Although it took a year longer than hoped for, they finally found someone who will start this summer just as the current director leaves the country after several years of amazing service. Praise God for this!

We have also previously asked you to pray over the property situation of UMN in Kathmandu. Some corrupt government officials were trying to steal the land. After several delays, the case was heard in court and ruled justly in favor of UMN! This is great news. Things still need to be finalized, but it means that UMN will rightly get to keep the land that is theirs.

Some of you gave extra money to help many of our Nepali house helpers and friends after the earthquakes. One of them, Laxmi, is easily known as one of the kindest women any of us have ever met. Her house continues to be rebuilt, thanks to you. Check out the pictures below. She hosted us for a farewell lunch, where she treated us with extreme generosity and care. Jack and her grand daughter had a lot of fun together. Those pictures are also below. Although she has a heart that reflects Jesus, she is Hindu. Please pray for continued influence in her life to reveal the truth to her.
