Rebuilding Tansen...

A second call was made a couple weeks ago for more funds to complete the houses that were rebuilt or newly constructed for our house-helpers following the big earthquake. The additional cost was justified accordingly:

The extra money is mostly for Laxmi and for Kesari.  The cost to do Kesari's house is 12 lakh - we have 9 in the account currently.  This is to make just a small 2 room place with a toilet.  (one floor).  They have dug out the hole, and Kesari's family is actually helping by carrying a lot of the supplies up from the road to their building site.  (Kesari is Rachel and Riggsbee's gardener - lives near Rachel's house).

Laxmi's house has gone hugely over budget due to the cost of supplies and troubles getting things to them during the border blockade.  They received 7 lakh and have bills now for 15 lakh.  Then - they had a landslide very near the front corner of the house which needs a retaining wall quickly, and they haven't moved in yet due to lack of doors and windows (needed due to snakes, etc).  Some of us here are giving 1.5 lakh specifically to build the retaining wall and help get doors put in, but we wanted to be able to give them more money as well to help to cover the costs that have gone so much over the amount we gave before.

Obviously you probably don't know Laxmi (though we've mentioned her before!) or Kesari but suffice it to say that these are single ladies who together have given many, many years of service to the volunteers at the hospital. And their simple homes were destroyed during the quake.

Fortunately, this post is being written to report the good news that due to the previous generosity of so many of you, we were able to donate another $5000 (5 lakh) to the effort. We rejoice with you once again for the awesome privilege to share our abundant resources with those in need. Thank you.
