Nepal's new constitution is supposed to be released tomorrow! While it is HUGE that, for the first time in nearly 10 years, Nepal's leaders have been able to come together and write a constitution to the point of being able to present it, this new constitution has some serious concerns.
It still contains wording that could have serious consequences for sharing about one's own religion. It also has created new district boundaries that may make life even harder for those who are already in minority based on ethnicity and caste. (Although the caste system has been made illegal, many still practice it.) These new boundaries have resulted in daily strikes, leading to clashes with police. Many people have been injured and even killed.
Although the area around Tansen, where we live, seems to have remained fairly peaceful, the strikes prevent sick people from traveling for care. The strikers typically allow "ambulances" (really just jeeps with oxygen tanks) to still travel, but at least one of these jeeps has been attacked during these particular strikes.
Please join us is praying for this nation that has previously overcome religious persecution and continues to recover from Maoist uprisings that resulted in more disappearances than any other country, the recent earthquakes, and now more landslides than usual.

I also would like to request prayers for a friend, Sarah. She is in the same class as us with Samaritan's Purse's Post-Residency Program, so we did our orientation together two years ago. We also got to see each other during a medical conference in Thailand earlier this year. It is easy to feel loved, safe, cared for and energized in her presence. She is an amazing believer and surgeon who has been working in Mukinge, Zambia. It has always been obvious that she has been very obedient to the Lord because she was clearly perfect for the job she was doing!
She came home a couple weeks ago due to some vague but serious symptoms and has since been diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. Given her young age and how far the cancer has already spread, this is a grave diagnosis. Her family and friends are surrounding her, and she has already started chemotherapy. (She is not a candidate for surgery at this point because the cancer has spread so far.) In the meantime her brother and his family just found out quite unexpectedly that they can no longer serve overseas where they have been for 7 years. This family has been hit with so many overwhelming challenges in the span of two weeks, and they are very heavy on my heart. Would you please lift up Sarah and her family?
