Laxmi didi never hesitated to greet me with her wide, warm smile. Even when I appeared too busy for her as I would run past while she worked in the garden. Even when my simple Nepali greeting was poor and probably difficult to listen to, when she did catch my eye. Even after the great earthquake struck that killed so many. Even after her home was destroyed by the quake, uninhabited still because it was determined to be unsafe.
Fortunately some fellow volunteers at the hospital saw the plight of Laxmi and other didi's who have faithfully served us for many years and decided something needed to be done. They pulled together a team to assess the damage to the homes of our house helper community and concluded that collecting a fund to repair and rebuild was feasible -- and the right thing to do.
Thanks to the generous support we've received so far in our ministry, we've pledged to donate $3000 to the cause. But the total expense has been estimated at $20,000. This estimate considers the homes of four other ladies in addition to Laxmi's and in some cases major construction.
Would you consider donating to help rebuild the homes of these women and their families?
If so, please have it sent through our Samaritan's Purse account as you might normally do but write us to designate it be used toward this project. We thank you for your support, on behalf of our Nepali friends in need. Please don't hesitate to contact us with questions.
